One of the exciting challenges for first time authors is finding a journal willing to disseminate research from a presentation after a healthcare conference. Journals have specific characteristics to achieve goals and impact.

Their characteristics include:

The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) has launched a new open-access scholarly journal: Peer Reviewed Reports in Medical Education Research, PRIMER.

PeerJ is a broad subject publishing option for early career researchers. Subject pages allow for the specification of a field audience. Exposure is given to a greater range of academic professionals, Smart Twitter integration enables social networking.

Recently established in 2008, it accepts essays from Australian National University undergraduates.

A peer reviewed journal for articles from all disciplinary areas and undergraduates from all universities worldwide (including student-staff collaborations).

International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

Peer reviewed open-access scientific journal for science and medicine. Created for active medical students worldwide.

Australian Council of Undergraduate Research

Opportunities are for a two-day conference with presentations by undergraduate students, honours students, Master of Research students (1st year only) and graduated honours students. Abstracts can be submitted prior the conference. The journal then launches an issue with the research after peer review. All disciplines accepted.

Advance Journal of Graduate Research

Multidisciplinary, peer reviewed and indexed journal for students completing their bachelor/master degree. Free to publish.

Butler Journal of Undergraduate Research

Submission of academic research articles is open to undergraduates from any accredited college and university.

American Medical Student Research Journal

Journal for the opportunity to develop skills needed to succeed in academia and clinical practice. Medical students author, review and edit with mentorship from experienced faculty members. Submissions are accepted from authors around the world.
